Our field trip to the Sheldon Theater for a performance on the history of jazz is tomorrow. We will be leaving Concord at 9:15 and returning by 11:45.

Here's what is happening this week in room 34!!

Science:We will work within stations to explore asteroids, meteors, comets, and moons. Our chapter 9 test on Earth and Space will be on Wednesday Feb. 3rd.

Writing: Wow! I was so impressed with our first memoir writing!!  This can be a difficult writing piece for students as they have to reflect on their lives, but everyone poured themselves into their writing, moving us all. We will begin this week  with our 2nd memoir piece! We are challenging ourselves to look deeply within for a new perspective to focus our next piece on. We will be flash drafting, revising the expository portions of our memoir, and reconsidering the finer points.

Math: This week we are adding/subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, problem solving, estimating sums/differences, adding/subtracting mixed numbers, and subtracting mixed numbers with renaming.

Reading: I couldn't be prouder of the amount of reading happening in our classroom! Continue to encourage discussions on books, current events (try tweentribune.com!), and social issues at home. We are completing our social issues book clubs this week and beginning a new unit on author studies!

Social Studies: This week we are continuing to discuss Roanoke, Jamestown, and other European settlements.

2/5- Counselor's Day

*Turn in your 10-12 pictures for the memory book

*Jump Rope for Heart permission slips went home last week.  Even if you opt out of raising money, students need a permission slip to participate.  It is a really fun event that happens during the school day and they won't want to miss it!

*Valentine Parties- Even though PTG does not host class parties, we will still exchange valentines in class and do something special on February 12.  I will send a note probably next week but I just wanted to give you a little notice in case you want to pick out those valentines.  We have 23 students as well.

*Below is a note from Sheri Strebler regarding the upcoming Maker's Fair:

It is not too late to participate in either PRISM or the Animal Expo. For the PRISM information, go to the Lindbergh School District homepage, go to either Students or Programs in the drop down menu. You will see "PRISM". When you click on that link, you can download an Entry form, a box order form, or the PRISM booklet. Just submit the Entry form and order a box next week. If you would rather do an Animal Expo project, those sheets went home recently. Both types of  projects are due on TuesdayFeb. 16. They will be on display at the Concord Maker's Fair night, Feb. 18 from 3:30-6. Both types of projects will receive a certificate, only PRISM projects will receive a prism with their grade on it.
