   This is so true with what are student's are working on this week. We are pushing them to be critical thinkers in all subject areas, and where they land is always better than where they began:)

This week in room 34.....

Science: We started our final lesson with chapter 11 force and motion. This week the students will be able to describe different kinds of machines and understand how they work.


Writing: We are working on finalizing our argument essay on chocolate milk and if it should be served in our school. They are working on adding powerful quotations, balancing evidence with analysis, and publishing their essay. We will share these out on Thursday, March 2nd.  We will start our 2nd argument essay  on Friday. We will take our arguments up a notch and bring a critical perspective to our writing. Students may choose to write about the argument topic they are researching in reading.

Math: Our unit fraction test came home today, students can make corrections to earn back points.  We started chapter 11 this week, which is measurement. This week will focus on converting customary units of length and weight, problem solving using logical reasoning, and estimating and converting customary units of weight.

Reading: We are focusing on argument and advocacy, researching debatable issues. Every student chose a debatable issue and are researching both sides of the topic. We are focusing on looking at texts for relevant information and be able to think and wonder as they read.

   Thank you so much for spoiling me last week. I could certainly feel the love and support through the kind cards, chocolate, coffee, nail polish, and gift cards. You are all the best!!!
 The kids had a blast at our V- day celebration, as well as Jump Rope for Heart, what a week!!

Concord Kindness Week:
We will be celebrating empathy and kindness next week for our first ever Kindness Week.
Tuesday’s Theme: “Dreaming of Kindness”-Wear your pajamas.
Wednesday’s Theme: “Peace, Love, and Kindness Day”-Wear tie dye clothing.
Thursday’s Theme: “Ride the Kindness Wave”-Wear Hawaiian clothing.
Friday’s Theme: “Flyer Family Team Day”-Wear Concord t-shirts.

Please return the middle school form by this Friday.


Here is what is happening this week....

Science: We are learning about Newton's Three Laws. 

Writing: We are working on our research-based argument essay, on if chocolate milk should or should not be served in our school. They are working on adding evidence to build their arguments, and adding powerful quotations.

Math:  We are dividing unit fractions by whole numbers, and problem solving by drawing a diagram. We review for our chapter 10 test on Thursday and the test will be this Friday. The study guide will go home today, and we will review it on Thursday.

Reading:  In reading, we will also be studying arguments and advocacy! Every student chose a debatable issue and are researching both sides of the topic. We are focusing on looking at texts for relevant information as they read.

Tomorrow,  we will be celebrating  Valentine's DayStudents can bring in their own special snack/drink for our celebration. I will have Capri Sun's for them too.

Students are more than welcome to bring in valentines for all classmates, however, they cannot contain any food/candy product. Please see the class list below- we have 26 students!

On Wednesday it is Early Release and Jump Rope For Heart. We will jump from 9:00-10:15.

On Friday, the Middle School counselors will be here to talk about 6th grade. A form will go home with your child on Friday, please fill out the bottom half and return tom me by February 24th. 

Spring Pictures are also on Friday!




Science We are beginning our unit on force and motion. Lesson one's objective is "What is Force?"


Math:  We are busy working on multiplying and dividing fractions this week! Students are not just learning the steps, they are learning how to show visually with models in order to truly understand the algorithm. See the below video we watched in class to really understand fraction multiplication! 


Writing:   We are publishing our last literary essay today and will celebrate tomorrow. I am so proud of the effort my class has put forth in this unit. This will be their 3rd essay! We will then begin our next big unit of study, research-based argument essay. We will begin the unit with a focused topic to research. We will learn the importance of researching both sides of the topic and taking notes to develop a paper.

ReadingThis week we are wrapping up our fantasy book club unit by celebrating all of the lessons we have learned through our characters and their adventures. Be on the lookout for fantasy book talks on Seesaw! We will also begin our next unit, studying arguments and advocacy! This week we will organize an ethical research life to investigate an issue within research teams.

 Our field trip to the Sheldon Theater for a performance on the history of jazz is tomorrow. We will be leaving Concord at 9:15 and returning by 11:45. 

 Here's what is happening this week in room 34!!

Science: This week will will use our Science time to take our Math Galileo, online district test.

Math: We reviewed today for our chap 8 and chap 9 test, adding and subtracting fractions. Our test will be tomorrow. Your child should use their study guide, math notebook, and book to study for the test. On Wednesday, we will start chapter 10 on multiplying and dividing fractions! 

Writing: We are continuing our study of how literary essays to show writers to be prepared for any opinion writing situation they encounter by transferring what they already know, and draft a new piece of writing in the strongest way possible.

Reading: We are wrapping up our Fantasy unit by investigating  symbolism, interpreting allegories in fantasy stories, and identifying archetypes. All students should be finished with their fantasy book clubs by Friday.

Social Studies: This week they will continue with their partner on their Thirteen Colonies presentation. We will begin presentations this Friday.
