I can not believe this is the last week of school!! It is really going to be hard to say goodbye to this amazing group of kiddos. This week is sure to be filled with many fun activities, as we countdown to Friday as well as continuing our love for learning.

Monday-   Monday is hat day! The fifth-grade strings will have rehearsal for their concert. Students will begin writing their letters of advice to my future fifth graders, and continuing with poetry.

Tuesday-  Superhero Day! This event is being organized by all of the 5th grade classes across the district to help raise funds for Officer Crosby for a wheelchair accessible home. Bring a $1 and you get to dress like a superhero. We will also be having our read-a-thon from 1:30-2:30.


Wednesday- It is 5th Grade PARTY DAY! Please have your child wear tennis shoes and socks.

Thursday- We will have our final Home Run Club of the year! We will also have our final ALEKS Pie Party for those who met their ALEKS goals. We are hoping to spend time cleaning out our cubbies.


Friday- Last day of school and half day! There will be NO lunch served.

This quote reminds me exactly what these last two weeks are all about, making memories! This week is packed with many exciting events. 

Tuesday, May 16th: We will have our Middle School Fly Up day. We will walk down to Sperreng   at 12:45 and will return by 3:10. This is an exciting day, they will have an opportunity to tour the building, meet their principals, their new teachers, ask questions, eat a snack, and learn all about 6th grade. Students are to wear a Concord shirt.

Thursday, May 18th:Please join us for their DARE Graduation and 5th Grade Recognition Ceremony, in the gym at 10:30 am. They will be given a DARE shirt to wear the morning of the ceremony. Typically this ceremony lasts around one hour.  

Friday, May 19th: Fun Day!!!

In between all of these events, we are squeezing in some learning as well.
Social Studies: Working on our Causes of the American Revolution Skits
Math: Working on our ALEKS goals, our  final ALEKS party will be next Thursday.  We will also learn all about ratios and statistics. 
Reading: We are working our our love for reading, focusing on our final book club.
WritingThis week we are reflecting on our year by writing a letter to next year's 5th grade students. We will also create "block-out" poetry (see example below!)

I hope everyone stayed safe, and was able to stay somewhat dry last week.  It was so nice too see the sun again!!  I can not believe that we are already in the last 3 weeks of the school year!

 This week...


Social Studies:-Last week we discussed the French and Indian War and it's effect. This week we will be researching causes of the American Revolution in research teams. Each team will come up with their own creative and exciting way to present their information to the rest of the class. 

Math- This week we will continue working towards our ALEKS goals and will begin working on some skills to help prepare for 6th grade including finding the mean, median, mode, range, and understanding algebraic expressions.

Reading-   We are busy kicking off our final realistic fiction book clubs this week. We will also continue reading choice books for enjoyment and recommending great books to each other. 

Writing-We are kicking off our poetry unit this week. We will be learning about and creating different types of poetry throughout the week including color poems, concrete poems,  and free style poems.

Science- We will begin a very exciting "bottle flipping" investigation this week. Thanks to those of you who were able to donate bottles for the experiment, we still need a few more.


Many exciting events are coming up for our 5th graders!! 

Today, a permission slip came home for our transition day to Sperreng. This will take place next Tuesday, May 16th, in the afternoon. Please return the permission slip as soon as possible, there is no fee. 

Thursday, May 18th, we will have our fifth grade award recognition and DARE ceremony. The program starts at 10:30 am in the gym, all are welcomed!!


D.A.R.E. graduation and 5th grade recognition will begin promptly at 10:30 am in the gymnasium. All family members are welcome to attend and will sit in the bleachers. Park in the lot and enter through our main entrance. Doors should be open ten minutes in advance. Students will be awarded a D.A.R.E. certificate of completion, D.A.R.E. essay winners will be announced, and general 5th grade awards handed out. 

May 24th, is the 5th grade party at Epic 6. This is an all day event. Please use the link to volunteer your time for what is sure to be a blast!
