Image result for success quotes for students

This week we are taking this quote and putting it into practice. We are preparing for MAP with our "MAP Intense Week". Each day students will travel to the other 5th grade classrooms to review reading, writing, math, and science topics. They are LOVING this taste of moving from teacher to teacher, a taste of Middle School. If for any reason your child will not be in attendance during MAP testing, please let me know. We are also enjoying all of the "All -Star" baby pics. Please send in your child's if you have not already. Also, thank you for those who have sent in MAP treats, we appreciate it. Please email or send me you MAP letter of encouragement.

The rest of our time will be busy as well as we continue to review all previously taught concepts in science, math and reading/writing as we explore the online tools and practice items on the computer. I couldn't be prouder of the amazing THINKING and LEARNING we are doing as we prepare!

Upcoming Dates:

As we are approaching MAP, this is our mindset! I believe keeping  a positive attitude towards our MAP testing will be half the battle towards a successful testing period. Please let me know if your child will be out for any reason. We will be testing April 17-21 and then 24-27th. In anticipation of the tests, we would like each student to receive a letter of encouragement from you on their first day of testing.  Please return your letter to me in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, or via email by Thursday April 13th.

With the schedule changes, students will not have a typical snack time each day which can be hard on them. We have found that a special treat each day really helps boost the morale of the students. If you are able to and would like to help, please send in some trail mix type snacks or individually wrapped snacks (we have 26 students) for our class. This may include pretzels, marshmallows, Chex mix, Cheez-its, goldfish crackers, etc. PLEASE NOTE, MUST be PEANUT FREE.  Each day before or after we take the test we will be able to enjoy a snack together to celebrate!

It is that time of the year when I like to do random  activities to keep school fun and inviting. Can you please send me a baby picture of your child, either by mail or in a sealed envelope. Each morning, I wish showcase a new baby picture and allow the class to guess who it is, a time to reflect on how far they have come.

Flyer Family shirts for this Wednesday!!

Science: We are working within science stations this week, discussing the Earth's surface. These are some of the topics covered in the Kindergarten- fifth grade curriculum for MAP review.

Writing-:  We will continue working on our DARE essays. We will complete our outlines, and begin drafting. DARE essays are due on Friday!

Math:  We are completing our study of geometry (chapter 12) this week! We will be finding the volume of composite figures and problem-solving. Our chapter 12 test will be on Friday.

Reading:  We are continuing to tackle complex texts and passages as we read, discuss, and answer practice higher level questions on the computer. We are citing evidence from the text to support our answers.
