What's happening this week in room 34....

A few reminders:
  • This week kicks off our Helping Hands campaign--please send in non perishable "protein" (food) items to help our very own Concord families
  • Tuesday is also Jingles 4 jammies--bring in spare change for Helping Hands and wear your jammies!
  • Wear gray Concord tee on Wednesday for early release (@1:40) Buddy Day... 
  • Wear red, white, and blue Friday for our Veteran's Day assembly
We will be honoring all of our veterans this Friday at our assembly, and then a reception immediately following. 

Science:  We will be presenting our Biosphere projects, and then representing data in graphical displays to reveal patterns of daily changes in length and direction of shadows, day/night, and the seasonal appearance of some stars in the night sky.

Reading:  We are continuing to focus on reading complex nonfiction with lessons on approaching texts as experts, conducting primary research to learn about a topic to discovers patterns, and determine the main idea, writing about reading in nonfiction,  and lifting the level of questions to drive research forward. Students are reading both nonfiction and fiction during independent reading time. Many of them are spending the time researching more our their research reports. They are becoming quite the expert on their topics!

Writing: We will celebrate our first informational wiring tomorrow. We will start on Wednesday our second nonfiction piece. Each student will pick an event in history to research and study, and write a nonfiction informative paper. We will begin looking at primary sources and learning the appropriate way to take notes from various resources.

Math: Our chapter 5 test on adding and subtracting decimals will be on Tuesday.  Check out the study guide hereNext up, multiplying and dividing decimals!

Social Studies: Students are finishing  their Constitution Law Exam. Next we will focus on the Bill of Rights.
