I can not believe this is the last week of school!! It is really going to be hard to say goodbye to this amazing group of kiddos. This week is sure to be filled with many fun activities, as we countdown to Friday as well as continuing our love for learning.
Monday- We are excited to welcome the middle school "Flight Crew" as they gave 2 presentations to our 5th graders! We also learned about ratios.
Tuesday- 5th Grade Party at Vetta!Please have your child wear tennis shoes.
Wednesday- We will share our causes of the American Revolution skits, Genius Hour projects and celebrate our reading achievements.
Thursday- We will have our final Home Run Club of the year! We will also have our final ALEKS Pie Party for those who met their ALEKS goals. We are hoping to spend time cleaning out our cubbies and meeting with our buddies.
Friday- Last day of school and half day! There will be NO lunch served. We will have our last assembly and Concord's "Fly Up" day. As new 6th graders, students will get an extra recess as I meet the new, upcoming 5th graders!

This quote reminds me exactly what these last two weeks are all about, making memories! This week is packed with many exciting events.
Tuesday, May 17th: We will have our Middle School Fly Up day. We will board the buses at 12:45 and will return by 3:10. The students will be eating lunch earlier at 12;00. This is an exciting day, they will have an opportunity to tour the building, meet their principals, their new teachers, ask questions, eat a snack, and learn all about 6th grade.
Thursday, May 19th:Please join us for their DARE Graduation and 5th Grade Recognition Ceremony, in the gym at 10:30 am. They will be given a DARE shirt to wear the morning of the ceremony. Typically this ceremony lasts around one hour.
Friday, May 20th: Fun Day!!!
In between all of these events, we are squeezing in some learning as well.
Social Studies: Working on our Causes of the American Revolution Skits
Math: Working on our ALEKS goals, our final ALEKS party will be next Thursday. We will also learn all about ratios and statistics.
Reading: We are working our our love for reading, focusing on Fantasy's characteristics .
Writing: This week we are reflecting on our year by writing a letter to next year's 5th grade students. We will also create "block-out" poetry (see example below!)

It's hard to believe that we are already in the last 3 weeks of the school year! We are busy in 5th grade and will be enjoying our time together!!!
This week...
Social Studies- Last week we discussed the French & Indian War. We will continue our discussions on the causes of the American Revolution this week.
Writing- We are wrapping up our DARE essays this week! We then are diving into writing fantasy! They are so excited about this new challenge. They also will be able to write with a partner.
Math- This week we will continue working towards our ALEKS goals and will begin working on some skills to help prepare for 6th grade including finding the mean, median, mode, range, and understanding ratios.
Reading- We are looking forward to reading our choice books for longer periods of time this week, keeping track of how many books and what genres we have read this year, and giving our recommendations to others.

What is happening this week...
Hooray! We are finished with MAP testing! I couldn't be prouder of our class' hard work and dedication to doing their very best on each session! As a special treat, tomorrow the entire school will celebrate MAP with a special hour of fun activities and treats! Also, on Friday each student will have an opportunity to throw a chocolate pudding pie in my face, for working hard and giving their 110% effort . We also have Junior Achievement today! What a fun learning opportunity, the class loved our special guests.
***Please turn in field trip permission slips this week! Thank you! This field trip was organized by our PE teachers. The students will have an opportunity to learn about health and nutrition, as well as playing some soccer!
Also this week...
Social Studies- For the remainder of the school year, we will spend our science time working on social studies! We are ready to get back into our study of the 13 English colonies and begin to study the American Revolution.
Writing- We are back to working on our DARE essay. Students are writing opinion essays on why they want to stay drug free. DARE essays are due May 11th on the Google drive. Click HERE for more information on the DARE essay!
Math- With a busy schedule this week, students will have some time to focus on their ALEKS goals. Next week, we will begin to cover some topics that will prepare us for 6th grade math!
Reading- We are excited to get back to our "Read to Self" time, dedicating 40+ minutes to reading a book of our choice! We will be sharing book recommendations and making reading plans for the rest of the year and into the summer.
