This week's happenings!! August 25-29

Here is what is happening this week in room 34.

Writing- We are continuing to build our writing stamina. We are up to 18 minutes!! We have begun writing conferences, truly my favorite part of the day. 

Science- We are discussing tools that scientist use and practicing in activities to classify, compare, and contrast, and to think like a scientist!

Math- We will be learning all about our new  textbook, and online component called ALEKS. We will begin chapter one on place value while participating in math workshop.

Reading- Our reading stamina is up to 25 minutes!! The class is doing a fantastic job staying focused, such great readers! We are focusing on the characteristics of genres and discuss "reading is thinking" though metacognition.

Leader jobs

Charlotte and Rachel are working on a poster for Ways To Read.  
   Mia is doing her leader job by writing our homework on the agenda board. Then we write that in our 
Jack was pushing in the chairs to help clean up he room. That is verry important.

Today in math we learned our station. We also learned how to look at a book and deside to read it or not. We talked about out different types of genres.

Students should read 20 minutes tonight.

Let's get serious!!



First Day FUN!!!


Welcome Back!!

Welcome back to school!! I hope everyone had a restful weekend and are ready for our first full week of school! I hope your child went home with a feeling of excitement and ready for fifth grade! This week will be busy continuing building our classroom community. In our classroom each student filled out a job application on Friday for a variety of leadership jobs, and they will be hired tomorrow! Listed below are the weekly objectives and reminders for the week, please let me know if you have any questions.

***Remember to bring a snack, our lunch is at 12:50

Writing- We will set up the expectations of our writer's workshop. We will also share our decorated notebooks, these are due Thursday. 

Reading- During reader's workshop we are going to look at how we pick good books, and begin building our reading stamina. 

Math- We will set up the expectations of our math workshop. We will work in small groups and independently.

Science-  We will set up our science journal and begin our first observation and discuss the tools scientist use.
